Super chlorination is essential to swimming pool maintenance. When super chlorinating is done with any form of chlorine, i.e gas chlorine, sodium hypochlorite, calcium hypochlorite, sodium dischloroisocyanurate, and trichloroisocyanuric acid, there may be an immediate settling out or precipitation of metals from the water and subsequent staining of the pool.
Gas chlorine properly used is least likely (of all methods for chemically treating swimming pools) to cause copper sulfate stains. Because the chlorine and acid are added in gas form, being lighter than water they do not concentrate in the deep end of the pool and will not be sucked up in the main drainer; they will distribute themselves more rapidly and evenly throughout the body of water, thereby eliminating concentrations or pockets of chemicals. This rapid, even distribution serves to quickly dilute the chemicals added.
Because of the ability of gas to distribute itself, a tremendous advantage is achieved - chemicals can be added while the filter system is off, giving the acid an opportunity to be buffered and diluted before going through the system. Gas added directly to the pool eliminates problems caused by other systems that introduce chemicals directly into the skimmer, pump or plumbing (such as tablets in the skimmer or cartridge chlorinators using sodium trichlor). |
